ITINERARY SALKANTAY TREK 4 DAYS TO MACHU PICCHU
FIRST DAY
Are you ready for an adventure? Let’s go on a journey to one of the most magical places on Earth! Today, we will explore the beautiful town of Mollepata, which is the main entrance to the Salkantay Valley. Our transportation will pick us up from our hotel at around 3:00 am to start this amazing adventure.
After a 3-hour journey, we will reach Mollepata, where we will have a delicious and nutritious breakfast. Our professional team will give us instructions and recommendations to make the most of this adventure. From this point, we will start the hike towards Salkantaypampa (4,100 m / 13,451 ft), which will take approximately 3 hours.
The best part of this journey is the lunch break, where we will enjoy our meal at the foothills of the majestic Salkantay mountain. Can you imagine a more breathtaking view? Although it might be a bit challenging, the experience is definitely worth it. After a short rest, we will continue our hike towards our final camping spot at Suyroccocha (4,600 m / 14,336 ft). Here, we will spend the night at the base of the Salkantay mountain, which stands at an astonishing height of 6,271 m / 20,574 ft. If the weather allows it, we will witness a spectacular night sky full of constellations and even shooting stars.

SECOND DAY
Are you ready for another day of adventure? Today, we will explore the beautiful landscapes of Salkantay and Machu Picchu even further. In your package, you will enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner to keep us fueled throughout the day.
We will start our day with an early and delicious breakfast before embarking on our ascent to the high pass of Salkantay (4,650 m / 15,255 ft). The climb will take us approximately 1 to 2 hours, but the view from the top is breathtaking. Surrounded by glaciers and with the valley below, it’s truly a sight to behold.
As we descend, the ecosystems will change, and the vegetation will slowly increase. If we’re lucky, we might spot some local birds and mammals along the way. We will have lunch in the community of Huayraqmachay, still at high elevations near the glacier.
After lunch, we will feel the abrupt change in climate as we enter the humid cloud forest, with dense vegetation and more wildlife. After approximately 4 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Collpapampa (2,920 m / 9,580 ft). Here, the weather is more tropical, and the area is abundant in flora and fauna. Our campsite will be near the river and nestled in the forest.
This part of the journey will give us a chance to experience the diverse landscapes of Salkantay and Machu Picchu. From high elevations with glaciers to the lush cloud forest, we will witness the stunning beauty of nature. THIRD DAY
On the third day of our journey, we will have the opportunity to explore some amazing places like Colpapampa, Sayahuaco, Hydroelectric Plant, and Aguas Calientes. We will start the day with a delicious breakfast and continue our hike through the dense vegetation of the high Andean jungle and fruit fields. As we walk, we will see a variety of fruits such as bananas, coffee, avocados, and cacao, which are the most common in this area. The landscape will transform into cascades, and we’ll observe a variety of orchids and many birds.
After walking for a while, we will stop for lunch at the community of Sayahuaco, situated at an altitude of 2,064 meters (6,771 feet). Then, we will take a short drive to the Hydroelectric Plant. Here we can decide if we want to take a short train ride instead of walking, for an additional cost of US$ 31. Finally, from the plant, we will continue our journey on foot for about 3 hours to reach Aguas Calientes, situated at an altitude of 2,050 meters (6,571 feet).
Once we arrive in Aguas Calientes, we will find our hotel and settle in before we gather for dinner at a local restaurant. Don’t miss out on the chance to see and experience these incredible places on your journey to Machu Picchu.

FOURTH DAY
Today is the day! Today we will reach our destination, Machu Picchu. We will wake up early to ascend and witness the sunrise, experiencing the beauty and magic of the Llaqta Machu Picchu. The guided tour will take approximately 2 hours, and if you have tickets for Huayna Picchu, you can do it at the end of the tour.
To finish our journey, we will ascend the train heading to Ollantaytambo, where our transportation will be waiting for us to return to Cusco and end our service as an authorized agency. We are confident that you will enjoy this trip, so get in touch with our advisors now!
As we will climb to Machu Picchu, the sun slowly rises, illuminating the ancient ruins and the majestic mountains surrounding us. The view is breathtaking, and it’s hard not to feel a sense of wonder and awe as we take in the beauty of this sacred place.

During the day, temperatures can reach 15℃ while at night, temperatures can drop to -10℃. However, this varies depending on the time of year.
Rainy Season
The weather on the Salkantay Trek 4 days route varies throughout the year according to the season you are in. For example, if you decide to take the tour between the months of November to March, it is likely that you will experience rain and cold weather, and you may not be able to enjoy your trip as much because Cusco is in the rainy season, and hiking on this route is not recommended during this season.
Dry Season
On the other hand, if you decide to take your trip between the months of April to October, you are likely to enjoy a wonderful trip because there is minimal rain compared to the rainy season. During these months, you can enjoy sunny days and the blue sky of Cusco during the day, and at night, you will feel the intense cold of Cusco. Therefore, we suggest that our passengers wear warm clothing for the nights.
WHAT IS THE TEMPERATURE LIKE ON THE SALKANTAY TREK?
Salkantay between November to April – Rainy Season
During these months, the days are sunny (66°F) and the nights are not as cold (39°F) compared to the rest of the year. However, the frequency of rainfall increases considerably, making the trek difficult.
Salkantay between April to October – Dry Season
The days in Salkantay remain stable (64°F). However, the nights have their lowest temperatures of the year (14°F). Nevertheless, the rainfall is still present but in less intensity due to the presence of mountains and glaciers. That’s why we suggest that passengers bring a waterproof jacket or rain poncho.
