On 17 June 2013, Nathan Heald (USA), Thomas Ryan (USA) and Luis Crispin (Peru) reached the summit at 10:30 a.m. after nine hours of climbing from a high camp at 18044 ft. on the NE ridge. This makes Crispin the first Peruvian climber to reach the top of the mountain.
The team took a reading of 20600 ft., S 13° 20.027′, W 72° 32.596′, on a GPS device. On 31 July 2013, a second team led by Nathan Heald (USA), composed of James Lissy (USA) and Edwin Espinoza Sotelo (Peru) made the summit via the NE ridge. (tuneupfitness.com) Due to the retreat of the glaciers, the route is now estimated to be rated D on the French adjectival scale. This makes Heald the only person to summit the mountain twice.
