What is the Inca Trail?
The Inca Trail was a segment of what was originally the great Inca road network known as Capac Ñan, a great road built by the Incas as part of a political, military, ideological and administrative project during the 15th century. The Qhapaq Ñan is also known as “The Main Andean Road” and fulfilled the important function of uniting the Tawantinsuyo (which in Spanish means the four regions or divisions of the empire in pre-Columbian America). Likewise, this route crosses the famous Andes Mountains passing through Colombia, Brazil, Ecuador, Bolivia, part of central Chile and Argentina.
