    We invite you to discover the magic and mystery of the Three Canyons of Suykutambo. These wonders of nature  are monumental rock formations of volcanic origin that give the appearance of endless and mysterious stone forests. The hills and vertical cliffs are over 130 meters.

    Three Canyons of Suykutambo is located in the district of Suykutambo, province of Espinar, 241 km from Cusco region.

    It is at an altitude of 4,801 m.a.s.l.

    Magic of the Three Canyons of Suykutambo:

    How are the Three Canyons formed? It’s a frequent asked question. This wonderful site is a geological complex located in the district of Suykutambo, Espinar province, in the Cusco region. This marks the meeting point of three rivers: the Apurímac, Callumani and Cerritambo, as they come together to form the Gran Apurímac. It has impressive geological formations of volcanic origin that are 80 meters high and a rich forest landscape composed of queñuas (Polylepis) and tolas (Parastrephia lepidophylla). These rocky formations, formed by the passage of the rivers, give the area its name, Three Canyons.

    Inkayni important fact: Peru Ministry of Environment declared, under Supreme Decree N°006-2017- MINAM, Three Canyons of Suykutambo a Protected area. This was officially declared on August 24, 2017. This decree will allow locals to make proper use of the natural sources of the area and benefit from the conservation and rural development of the site.

    Thanks to its incredible geography, the Three Canyons of Suykutambo make a perfect tourist attraction.  The rivers, slopes and plateau of the area allow tourists to participate in adventure sports like trekking, paragliding, canoeing and rock climbing. The Eco-Sport Tourism and Traditional Dance Festival are held here annually.

    How to get to the Three Canyons?

    To get to the Three Canyons, you need to:

    Depart from Cusco towards the district of Yauri, province of Espinar, Cusco region. It will take 4 hours approximately to get there. Along the way you will visit some important places of the South Valley of Cusco like Tipon, Andahuaylillas, Raqchi and Lagui Lagoon – Layo. You will be fascinated by learning more about these mystic sites. 

    Once in Yauri-Espinar, you will go to the Three Canyons of Suykutambo. It takes 50 minutes approximately to finally visit the canyons.

    Opening Hours:

    Since the entrance to the area is free, you can enter at anytime during the day; however, it is recommendable to visit the site in the morning, perfect time to enjoy the splendid view.

    • Don’t forget to pack warm clothes! Nights can be very cold. You can bring beanie, scarfs and gloves.
    • If it rains a waterproof jacket or rain poncho will be useful.
    • To hike safely, you can bring trekking poles.

    • In order to avoid any inconvenience with the locals, keep the places you go clean.
    • Have a camera with you.
    • Bring your passport or any personal ID. 
    • Drink water to keep hydrated.
