Location:

Tipon zoo is located in the community of Choquepata in the district of Oropesa, Cusco.

Climate:

Since Tipon zoo is located in the region of Cusco, it has two distinct seasons: dry and rainy. The dry season is from May to October and the rainy season is from November to April.

Temperature:

Average temperature in Oropesa – Cusco varies from 13ºC (55.4ºF) to 15ºC (59ºF).

During the day, the temperature can get to 23ºC. (73.4ºF) while at night it can drop to 2ºC. (35.6ºF) or even fewer, depending on the time of the year.



Best Season:

The best season to visit Tipon Zoo in Cusco is during the dry season, from April to October. During the dry season, days are sunny and bright with a beautiful clear blue sky. However, since early mornings and nights are colder, we recommend bringing warm clothes.

On the other hand, you will be able to enjoy important festivities in Cusco such as: Festival of the Sun, Sir Qoyllorit’i pilgrimage, Jubilee Month of Festivities in Cusco, Corpus Christi, Virgen del Carmen in Paucartambo Festivity, Virgen Asunta Festivity, among others.

Furthermore, the dry season is perfect to go hiking. You can take any route that takes you to Machu Picchu Citadel safely. It is worth mentioning that since June, July and August are part of the high season, it is better to book your trek in advance, at least 6 months before the trip.

Description:

Tipon Zoo is located in the district of Oropesa, south of Cusco. It is a private place designated as an animal Shelter. Some of these animals are in danger of extinction such as:

  • Andean Condor
  • Spectacled bear
  • Monkeys, among others

Similarly, you can observe:

  • Pumas
  • Snakes
  • Parrots
  • Anteaters
  • Deers
  • Alpacas
  • Vicuñas
  • Tortoises
  • Koala
  • Partridge
  • Hawk
  • And many more.

The private Andean animal shelter’s main focus is to contribute to the conservation of the wildlife and the biodiversity of the Cusco region. It has the support of some institutions that collaborate with this project. That is why all the animals of the zoo  are well looked after, waiting for you.



How to get to Tipon Zoo?

Actually, getting to Tipon zoo in Oropesa, Cusco, is not complicated. Below you find three options to get to the zoo:

First Option: By bus

This is the cheapest option. You only need to take the bus that goes to Saylla Tipon. To take the bus you have to go to La Cultura Av, in Cusco. The cost of the ticket is S/. 2 nuevos soles per person. It normally takes from 1 to 1 hour and a quarter to get there.

Once you get to the last stop of the bus, you will have to walk 15 minutes until you get to the zoo’s door. You will have to pay the entrance tickets and enjoy your visit.

Second Option: By Taxi

The second option is to take a private taxi from Cusco to the zoo. It may cost from S/. 25.00 to 30.00 nuevos soles. To get to the zoo, it takes from 30 to 45 minutes. Taking a taxi has some advantages such as getting to the door of the zoo without any inconvenience.



 

Third Option: Through a Tourist Agency

Getting to the zoo through a tourist agency is the most practical option. A tourist agency will arrange everything in advance and make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your visit..
