From Lima to the Sacred City of Caral
Begin with an early pickup from your hotel or Airbnb and travel north along the Pan-American Highway through the Huaura and Supe valleys. At Caral, take a guided walk through the archaeological complex. Discover the Main Plaza and Central Pyramid, the amphitheater and Altar of the Sacred Fire, smaller temples and residential areas. Your guide explains the architecture and significance of these ceremonial spaces. Stop at a local restaurant after the visit; confirm whether lunch is included in your quote. Return to Lima after the excursion. The published duration is approximately 14–15 hours; traffic and the confirmed route determine the return time.

What is Caral and why is it so important?
Caral is considered the oldest civilization in the Americas, dating back more than 5,000 years. Its monumental constructions, advanced astronomy, and complex social organization make it one of the mother cultures of the continent.
How long is the tour from Lima?
The full tour lasts approximately 14 to 15 hours, from departure in Lima to return in the evening. This includes transfers, guided visit, and free time for lunch.

Is the transport private?

How difficult is the walk at Caral?
The walk is moderate, mostly on dry, sandy, and rocky terrain under the sun. No great physical condition is required, but basic mobility is needed. Bring water and a hat.
Will there be free time for photos or exploration?
Yes. After the guided tour, there’s usually some free time for photography or exploring additional areas of the site, always under the supervision of the guide and park staff.
Are children or seniors allowed?
Yes. The tour is suitable for children from 5 years old and for seniors with good mobility. A hat, hydration, and avoiding heavy loads are recommended.
Who discovered Caral?
The site was studied and confirmed as the oldest city in the Americas by Peruvian archaeologist Ruth Shady in 1994. Since then, Caral has been recognized by UNESCO and is a symbol of Peru’s national heritage.

Yes. There are small shops selling local handicrafts and themed souvenirs near the archaeological site. You can also support nearby communities by purchasing their handmade products.
