    Humantay Lagoon is nestled among many snowy scenic mountain peaks in the Vilcabamba mountain range in the Andes of Peru. What is most outstanding is its water which has a special turquoise color that is mystifying.

    Humantay Lagoon has become one of the most popular full-day tour in Cusco. Not only local people know its existence, but people worldwide are coming to see this amazing attraction.

    Humantay Lagoon – Soraypampa (Mollepata)

    Where is Humantay Lagoon located?

     This beautiful lagoon is located in Soroypampa, 25 km from the District of Mollepata, Province of Anta, Cusco.

    Longitude: 72°37’2.43″O

    Latitude: 13°24’41.72″S

    Climate: The weather is cold. We recommend wearing warm clothes like:

    • Hats
    • scarfs
    • Warm jacket
    • Waterproof jacket or rain poncho
    • Gloves

     Dry season:  From May to October

    The weather during this period is predominantly dry, especially in June, July, and August. We recommend wearing warm clothes.

     The rainy season: From November to April

    During this time Cusco receives a greater amount of rainfall. Thunderstorm can be seen in the sky.

    The best season to visit Humantay Lagoon:

     The best season to go to Humantay Lagoon is in the dry season from May to November since there is minimal chance of rain and the mountains are lush and green from the passing rainy season.

    It takes 6 hours approximately to get from Cusco to Humantay Lagoon.

    Why should you go to Humantay Lagoon?

    The amazing natural beauty of the area will leave you speachless. It is surrounded by impressive mountains that make you feel their power and energy when you stand to look out over the water.

    The turquoise water set in front of you is just surreal. The feeling can not be compared to the one of seeing the most beautiful painting.

    Although getting there implies some good physical condition, once on the top you will value those extra hours working out back at home. We recommend exercising before coming to Peru and once in Cusco rest for 2 days to acclimatize to the altitude and be ready to visit this breathtaking lagoon.

    How to go to Humantay lagoon on your own?

    It’s very easy to visit Humantay Lagoon from Cusco.

    1. The first thing you have to do is take the bus or minivan from Cusco to Mollepata early in the morning. The bus station is in Arcopata. It cost from 15 to 20 Peruvian Soles and takes 1 hour 40 minutes approximately to get there.
    2. Once in Mollepata, after having breakfast, you should get a taxi that takes you to Soroypampa. It may cost 20 Peruvian Soles.
    3. When you get to Soraypampa, you will start the hike. It takes 1 hour and a half to get to the Lagoon. If you feel you won’t be able to climb, you can rent a horse.
    4. The entrance ticket to Humantay is 10 Peruvian Soles. Although once in the Lagoon, you can stay as long as you want, we recommend staying there from 30 minutes to 1 hour and start your journey back to Cusco.
    5. You can have lunch in Mollepata and then take the bus back to Cusco.

    Note: The hike is flat only the first 20 minutes; then you will have to climb up the Mountain.
