Location:

Famous Smurfs house is located in the province of Andahuaylas, in Apurimac. It  is in the most visited district of the country, Pampachiri.

Description:

In Pampachiri, there is an unreal rock forest which, with a great view of the landscape of this region, has become an interesting destination for fans of the Smurfs who like to combine this with nature. It’s an incredible panorama that looks unreal.

The original name of this place is “Ayamach’ay” which means “Cave of the Dead”. So why is it known as the “Smurfs house”? This is because the rock formation resembles the mushroom-shaped houses of the comic series. It is estimated that these mysterious rock formations originated four million years ago, with the volcanic material expelled along with the magma of the hills Qarwarasu and Sotaya, which are close to this place.

Mysterious rock formations have the shape of people, animals and the popular Smurfs house which captures a childhood memory of the comic.

Stone forest, also known as “House of the Andean Elves”,  is an area that extends for 60 hectares. These conical mushroom-shaped rock formations rise up to about 8 meters and offer an overwhelming view for the many tourist that come to explore the area.

Something positive is that the Regional Directorate of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Dircetur) in Apurímac and local authorities have allowed the access, maintenance and caring of the stone forest, known as “Smurfs house”

What can you see?

• Along the route you can observe a great variety of flora and fauna. If you want to camp there, you will love the sky full of stars.
• 30 minutes from the Smurfs house, you can observe beautiful Pacucha lagoon. The temperature of its water is unique. It is 16 to 19 celsius degrees, ideal for a bath. 
• From this forest of stones, you can make a trekking route to the Lagunilla de Roqrosqa, located in the town known as Cabra Wasi. The hike lasts approximately one hour and a half, in which you will enjoy the beautiful landscapes. Don’t forget to take as many photos as possible!

How to get there?:

On your own:

• If you decide to go to the “Smurfs House” on your own, you have to get to  Andahuaylas first. You can take the transportation that departs from Cusco towards Abancay.
• Once in Abancay, you have to take the transportation to Andahuaylas. It costs S/.130 PEN

With a tourist agency:

Without any doubt, this is the best option since the agency will set everything in advance for you to make the most of the experience.
