Machu Picchu 2026 Tickets Rates: Everything that will change and you haven’t been told yet

Starting January 1, 2026, entry to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu will have promotional rates throughout the year. This is established by the ANP Resolution No. 000004‑2025‑SERNANP/SHMPI‑SGD, issued by SERNANP. The regulation sets differentiated prices for national visitors, foreigners, and specific populations, with the aim of promoting more inclusive access to the protected natural area.

However, its application can be confusing if you don’t clearly understand exactly which areas this provision covers. Here we explain what the resolution says, and what it doesn’t say.

What exactly does this resolution regulate?

The ANP Resolution No. 000004‑2025‑SERNANP/SHMPI‑SGD, published by SERNANP, approves an exclusive promotional rate system for entry to the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu as a Protected Natural Area (ANP), applicable throughout the entire year of 2026. The rates published in the resolution are as follows:

• It applies only to the Sanctuary as a Protected Natural Area (ANP), managed by SERNANP.
• It grants free entry every Sunday to residents of Cusco department with local ID.
• It allows free entry to foreign minors up to 3 years old (with passport or valid document).
• It establishes promotional rates differentiated for nationals and foreigners throughout 2026.
• It does not mention or modify the ticketing system for the archaeological citadel (Ministry of Culture).

This is the first time that SERNANP establishes a direct charge for the natural sanctuary as a whole. Until now, it only charged for the use of the Inca Trail. To clarify, the new rate applies only to the Natural Sanctuary managed by SERNANP, does not include the archaeological citadel or its circuits or mountains. It establishes free Sunday entry for Cusco residents with local ID, free access for foreign minors up to 3 years old, and differentiated promotional rates by age and nationality. It does not modify or replace the Ministry of Culture’s fee.

Important note:

This is the first time that SERNANP implements a direct and generalized charge to enter the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu as a whole. Until now, there was only a charge for using the Inca Trail, not for accessing the protected area itself.

So, will visitors have to pay two entrance fees?

Officially, no regulation has been issued that unifies the charges from SERNANP and the Ministry of Culture. Nor has there been an announcement about the existence of a combined ticket. However, according to operational sources close to the sector, everything indicates that both tickets will be charged separately or, failing that, the price of the current Ministry of Culture ticket to access Machu Picchu would be increased.

Rates to access Machu Picchu (2025)

According to information shared unofficially by iPerú staff, SERNANP could install control points at access points to Machu Picchu, which would imply an additional payment if you want to enter from these routes.

In 2026, two separate tickets will be required, one for the Natural Sanctuary (SERNANP) and another for the archaeological citadel (Ministry of Culture), although there is a possibility that they will be unified into a single ticket with an adjusted price at the time of entry. For now, there is no official confirmation.

Key warnings for travelers

• Don’t confuse the SERNANP ticket with the citadel ticket. They are different spaces.
• The SERNANP ticket will not allow you to enter temples, plazas, or annexed mountains.
• Both accesses require presenting original passport or ID. Copies are not accepted.
• The Ministry of Culture rates may change. Verify before purchasing.
