05 DAY SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU!

Inkayni Peru Tours offers you two options to reach Machu Picchu by the Salkantay trekking route. First one of 5 days with group and/or private service; and a second option of 4 days with group service.

During the 05 days of Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu, you will be able to walk from 3,900m/12,800ft to 2,100m/6,900ft. As if that were not enough, you will have a panoramic view of landscapes typical of the Peruvian Andes accompanied by endless views of snow-capped mountains and enjoy the 15 ecosystems that this route has in the Cusco region.

Also, in some areas of the Salkantay to Machupicchu trek you will be able to interact with the local people, who will be willing to show and teach you part of our culture. ITINERARY SALKANTAY TREK TO MACHU PICCHU 05 DAYS

DAY 1: CUSCO – MOLLEPATA – SORAYPAMPA – HUMANTAY LAKE

On the first day of the 5-day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu, we will travel through Cusco, Mollepata, and Soraypampa. We will provide lunch and dinner on the first day. We will depart from Cusco to Mollepata and stop for last-minute shopping and a light lunch if necessary. We will continue to Challacancha, meet the Inkayni Peru Tours staff, and continue to Soraypampa. During the hike, we will enjoy the panoramic view of the Nevado de Salkantay.

We will have lunch in Soraypampa and continue walking towards the stunning Humantay lagoon. Afterward, we will rest, have dinner, and spend the night in our camps. The first day of trekking is considered challenging, and it is recommended to be in good physical condition to avoid altitude sickness. The minimum altitude is 3350m/10990ft, and the maximum altitude is 4200m/13779ft.

DAY 2: SORAYPAMPA – CHALLWAY

On the second day of the Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu, we will start our day with a nutritious breakfast. Please note that Inkayni Peru Tours provides breakfast, lunch and dinner on the second day.

We will prepare for a drastic change in temperature, as we will pass through snowy and tropical areas. It is recommended to plan ahead and pack appropriate clothing to fully enjoy the second day of the trek.

After breakfast, we will start the most challenging part of our hike, beginning at around 7:00 a.m. and heading towards Salkantaypampa. We will then proceed to the left side of the Umantay snow-capped mountain, located next to Apu Salkantay. At around noon, we will reach the highest point of the route (15091 ft.).

Here, we will witness spectacular views of the Andes mountains and the imposing snow-capped peak of Salkantay (20551 ft.), which is known as the second highest point in the Cusco region.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., we will have lunch in Huayracmachay, and after finishing, we will continue hiking for about 3 more hours to reach our camping area in Challway (9580 ft.). Around 7:00 p.m., we will be recovering from the hike and having dinner.

MAPA DÍA 2: Salkantay Trek 5 days a Machu Picchu

DAY 3: CHALLWAY – THE BEACH – LUCMABAMBA

At approximately 7:00 a.m., we will start our hike while enjoying the beautiful sunrise. We will walk for approximately 5 hours to Sahuayaco Beach. During the course of time we will observe a village called Collpabamba, also known as “the eyebrow cloud forest”, where we will be able to observe waterfalls, fruit trees, a great variety of flora and different species of birds.

If we are lucky, we will also be able to observe the famous national bird of Peru, called “Gallito de las Rocas” (Andean Cock-of-the-Rock). It is a bird native to the Andean-Amazonian region of northwestern and western South America. Scientifically this bird is known as rupicola peruviana and measures approximately 35 centimetres.

Once we arrive in Sahuayaco we will have lunch to recharge our batteries and continue our hike. After lunch we will walk for a couple of hours until we reach Lucmabamba. Place that will be our last camping area and also the beginning of the Inca Trail of Llaqta Pata.

MAPA DÍA 3: Salkantay Trek 5 days a Machu Picchu

DAY 4: LUCMABAMBA – LLAQTAPATA – HIDROELECTRICA – AGUAS CALIENTES

The fourth day will start at around 8:00 am and we will start walking for about 2 hours, until we reach the area of Llaqta Pata, a beautiful archaeological site that has a connection with the Inca site of Sayacmarka and Machu Picchu.

Once we are in Laqta Pata, we will have enough time to explore this beautiful Inca site and then we will start descending to “Hidroeléctrica”. The approximate time for this hike is one and a half hours. From Hidroeléctrica we will walk to Aguas Calientes for an average of 3 hours, enjoying the scenery. Upon arrival we will proceed to store our luggage and go out for dinner together at a Machupicchu Pueblo restaurant.

Consider that the fourth day also includes breakfast, lunch and dinner.

MAPA DÍA 4: Salkantay Trek 5 days a Machu Picchu

DAY 5: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO (B)

The fifth day is the last day of our trekking tour from Salkantay to Machu Picchu, and it is the most important day because today we will finally be able to ascend to the Machu Picchu Citadel. To do so, we will get up very early and head out to catch the first buses of the day and enjoy Machu Picchu.

What is the best time to visit Machupicchu?

The best time to climb Machupicchu is in the morning to see the sunrise over the Inca citadel. There is nothing better than watching the sun rise over Machupicchu and taking the obligatory photo for your collection of new adventures around the world.

Once we are in Machu Picchu, we will have 2 hours to make the historical – informative tour of each of the important places in the citadel of Machu Picchu.

After finishing our visit, we will take the bus back to the town of Aguas Calientes, then board the train back to Ollantaytambo and finally return to Cusco.
