DAY 1: PISCACUCHO - WAYLLABAMBA (12 KM)

This wonderful day will start with our warm welcome and pick up from your hotel between 6:00 am and 6:30 am approx. Make sure you’re ready a few minutes early. We will head to Ollantaytambo town, where we will stop for breakfast and do shopping.

We will continue our journey to Piscacucho (2,720 m.a.s.l./8,923 ft.), the starting point of our trek. Here you can meet our team of Inkayni Peru Tours, including chefs and porters who will accompany us on the Inca Trail. Then we will head to the checkpoint, where you will present your original passport. From this point, you will be officially inside the Inca Trail.

The first day will be ideal as the first 2 hours will not be demanding; we will take them as a warm-up as we head towards Huillca Raccay. At this point, our guide will share valuable information that will leave you amazed. We will continue on trails full of history until reaching Patallacta (2,850 m/ 9,350 ft)

After more history and beautiful scenery, we will arrive at Tarayoc. Here we will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our chefs, with the incredible view of La Verónica Snowy as a backdrop.

After enjoying lunch, we will continue towards Wayllabamba (3,000 m/ 9,842 ft) for approximately 2 hours. Here we’ll rest, recharge our energies with a delicious dinner, and prepare for the next day.

We started this day after having our well-deserved rest and, of course, having breakfast to nourish us with energy. We will continue our walk; on this day we will test our endurance and we will achieve it by reaching the highest point of the Inca Trail Tour, «El Abra de Warmihuañusca (4,200 / 13,779 feet)» (Dead Woman Pass).

After walking for approximately 1 hour, we will arrive at Llulluchapampa (3,800 m / 12,460 ft). At this point, we will take a short break to enjoy some hot drinks and some snacks, all to prepare. We will continue walking for about 2 hours. Part of this route will test our physical and mental endurance until we reach the Abra Warmihuañusca, the highest point of all this trekking.

Is that it? No, it’s not. Here we will have a small Andean ceremony in gratitude to the Pachamama and the Apus (Tutelary Gods of the Gods).

After overcoming this challenge, we will start descending for approximately 2 hours until reach our camp at Pacaymayu (3,580 m.a.s.l./9,842 ft.), where we will have our well-deserved rest after an amazing day.

Note: In Pacaymayu, we will have the opportunity to have lunch and/or dinner. This will depend on the pace of the walk on the second day.

On a beautiful day, we will take advantage of some of our morning under the warm sun rays to enjoy a rich breakfast that will recharge us with energy before continuing our trek.

We will resume our tour, climbing up to reach the Runkurakay archaeological site (3,680 m/ 12,000 ft), which will take approximately one hour. But we will not stop there; we will continue to climb, this time towards the Abra Runkurakay, which will take about an extra hour to reach this point.

The Abra Rankurakay (4,000 m/ 13,123 ft), offers an incredible view of landscapes that you will only experience on the way of the Inca tour. Don’t forget to bring your camera to capture those unforgettable moments. After enjoying these views, we will start the descent, which will take approximately one hour, until reaching the Sayacmarca archaeological site (3,650 m/ 11,800 ft). The stories of each place come to life when told by our guides from Inkayni Peru Tours.

Afterward, we continue walking until reaching Chaquicocha (3,600 m/ 11,800 feet), where we will enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by our chefs and take a short break to recharge our energies.

Once rested and having enjoyed our lunch, we will walk approximately one hour and a half to reach our camp in Phuyupatamarca (3,680 m/ 12,073 ft). Here, we can rest to be ready for the next day and enjoy a delicious dinner. This place gives us a beautiful view of the mountain range of Vilcabamba.

We are already on the fourth day of the Inca Trail. This wonderful day will begin after recharging our batteries with our delicious breakfast, it will help us with the strength to face the day.

We will start walking towards the Phuyupatamarca archaeological site (3,680 m/ 12,073 ft), where history is present in every step along its cobbled paths. Get ready! From this point, we will descend 3000 steps, which will take us approximately 2 hours, until we reach the Intipata archaeological site (2,800 m/ 9,270 feet), where we can admire its incredible terraces that are believed to have been used for the cultivation of various agricultural products.

After this experience, we will continue walking. Don’t forget to take those amazing pictures to share. We’ll advance until we reach WiñayWayna (2,680 m/ 8,792 ft), which will take us about an hour. Here, the biggest surprise will be its 40 terraces built on the mountain slopes.

Are you feeling tired? After visiting some of these places, we will have a deserved rest and enjoy our delicious lunch to recharge our energies.

Once we are ready and prepared, we will continue walking for about 2 hours until we reach Inti Punku (2,800 m / 9,270), from where we will have the most incredible view of the Machu Picchu Inca citadel.

After enjoying this impressive view after having traveled the Inca Trail, we will descend by bus to Aguas Calientes town (2,050 m/ 6,561 feet)where we’ll spend our last night. Here we will rest to prepare for the next day.

This will be our last day on our Inca Trail tour, so make the most of it. Don’t forget to bring your camera!

We will start early to enjoy the amazing sunrise view in the Aguas Calientes town (2,050 m / 6,561 ft). We will head to the bus station, which will take us to the entrance gate of the citadel of Machu Picchu.

At this point, we must present our documents, such as your passport, and do not forget to show your ticket. This is where you will start exploring the Machu Picchu citadel (2,400 m.a.s.l./7,873 ft.) with our guide from Inkayni Peru Tours, who will share accurate and fascinating data through the stories of this place.

Once we have finished visiting Machu Picchu, we will descend to the Aguas Calientes town. You can use part of the remaining time for lunch (on your own). Then, you will board the train that will take you to Ollantaytambo (2,700 m/ 8,858 ft), where our mobility will be waiting for you to take us back to Cusco City (3,350 m / 8,792 feet).

To complete our services, our warm farewell will mark the end of the tour of the Inca Trail.

Remember to acclimatize properly before doing this trekking. Proper acclimatization is essential to enjoy the walk and avoid altitude sickness. We recommend taking short trips close to the city of Cusco, which are perfect for this.

Our priority is that you enjoy your trip without worrying about what you can carry in your backpack. The only thing we recommend is your sleeping bag, which is not included, but you can rent it with us.

How much weight can I carry in my backpack during the trekking?

Traveler, there is no weight limit set for the Inca Trail. However, the purpose of this tour is to enjoy it to the fullest. Therefore, we recommend you bring only what is necessary.

To help you pack your bags, check out our “What to bring?” button. There you will find a list of items that could be useful for your trip. Remember that the intention is to enjoy your trip and leave aside any inconvenience that can cause you a poorly packed backpack.

Can I hire porters to carry my equipment?

Inkayni Peru Tours has a highly efficient team. As part of our services, we include one carrier per traveler. However, you should be aware that the carrier will carry baggage with a weight limit.

How many kilograms of baggage can the carrier carry?

To ensure the safety and well-being of our staff, we have established that each carrier will carry a maximum of 5 kg per traveler during the Inca Trail Tour. This is essential to preserve the integrity of those who will accompany us throughout the journey.

Note: If you have extra baggage, you have the option to carry it yourself or hire an extra carrier.

Why do I have to attend the briefing before the Inca Trail tour?

The preparation meeting for the Inca Trail is important. In it, you will meet your guide, who will be with you throughout the entire tour. You will also receive information about the route, how to dress, what to wear, weather conditions, and other relevant data that you must take into account.

In addition, at the meeting, you will be given a duffle bag where you can pack everything you need for the trip. Remember that the maximum weight allowed is 5 kg. If you haven’t yet completed the remaining balance, you can do so at the meeting.

Is it possible to change the starting date of the Inca Trail tour after booking?

Traveler, it is important to note that the starting dates for the Inca Trail Tour cannot be changed. Why? Reserved permits require an advance deposit and have a specific date for use. Therefore, when planning your trip to the Inca Trail, you should be careful to make sure that you meet the dates booked.

What if I cancel my Inca Trail to Machu Picchu booking, the deposit is refundable?

The deposit for the Inca Trail is not refundable once it has been made. Why? The deposit is used to purchase the permits, tickets, and tickets necessary to secure your trip on the date you have scheduled.

Do I need to make a booking in advance?

Can I transfer my Inca Trail to Machu Picchu permit to someone else?

Unfortunately, these permits cannot be transferred to another person and are not refundable. Once issued, they can only be used by the person to whom they were granted.

What about the payment, do I need to make a deposit to secure my Inca Trail tour?

It is essential to contact our sales agents before depositing to check the availability of the Inca Trail on the desired travel date. After confirming availability, deposit 40% of the total trek by credit card, bank transfer, Western Union, or PayPal. The reservation is confirmed by e-mail.

The remaining balance is settled upon arrival in Cusco, preferably in cash in US dollars or Peruvian soles. The initial deposit is not refundable or transferable, as it is used to buy the Inca Trail permit and secure the space. Changes to the reservation are not allowed once the permits have been purchased.

What kind of shoes are recommended for trekking?

Travelers, making this type of trip as the Inca Trail Tour is indispensable care of our feet. Therefore, we recommend you wear trekking shoes and/or sneakers. These shoes are perfect for this type of activity, as they are very versatile in terms of moisture care, ventilation, and comfort.

Note: Avoid wearing urban or gala shoes. We know our look is unique, but it’s important to sacrifice it to enjoy this trip to the fullest and leave aside the injuries that can cause these shoes.

How many people are in a typical trekking group?

Normally, the groups that make the Inca Trail tour are 12 people maximum. However, please note that the service offered by Inkayni Peru Tours is private. What does this mean? You can make this trip only for you and your travel companions, whether they are your family members and/ or friends.

Where can I store my luggage that I don’t need to take on the hike?

Do not worry about it; keep in mind that, to make the Inca Trail tour, you must bring only what is necessary and no superfluous items. Most hotels offer free luggage storage. This way, you could drop him off at the hotel where you’re staying.

If your hotel does not offer this service, we can store your luggage safely in our office and you can pick it up on your return.

Are there any toilets available along the Inca Trail?

Sure! Along the route of the Inca Trail, you will find bathing facilities with running cold water. However, remember that these toilets are often unhygienic and difficult to access.

On the other hand, at Inkayni Peru Tours we provide services that include ecological portable toilets as part of our commitment to nature and the comfort of our travelers.

For the fourth day, you will stay in a hotel where you can enjoy all the necessary amenities, including the possibility of properly cleaning up.

Is there a telephone or internet connection during the Inca Trail Tour?

Traveler, please note the following: the Inca Trail is a remote journey where mobile network coverage and internet signal are scarce. However, you can enjoy these services from your first day as well as the fourth and fifth days of your journey.

Is it necessary to use insect repellent?

The only animals that can travel on the Inca Trail are endemic, non-domesticated animals. Bringing a different specimen could cause an imbalance in the wildlife of the place.

Can I bring my camera or phone during the Inca Trail Tour to take pictures?
