After picking you up from your hotel in Cusco at approximately 8 am, we will head to Chinchero to start our tour of Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu. Soon, our first visit will be to the main square, full of walls and well-preserved Inca altars. Next, the visit will be to a Textile Center to immerse ourselves in an experience of learning the Andean textile art. Then, local weavers will guide you through a step-by-step process in the ancient art of Andean weaving, which has been given since long before the Inca culture.

Then, as we continue our journey exploring the Sacred Valley, we will cross lush agricultural fields and small rural communities. Soon, our next stop will be Moray and its spectacular terraces or agricultural concentric rings. Certainly, they have proven to be an experimental center to understand the impact of climate and temperatures on different types of crops or agricultural plants, even for domestication.

After that, we will descend a little to the Maras Salt Mines, an important production center that dates back to pre-Inca times. Here we will find more than 3,000 salt wells minted along the mountainside, which are filled daily by the water that seeps into the earth, which we refer to as the tears of Mother Earth!

In the afternoon, our train will leave the town of Ollantaytambo towards the train station of Aguas Calientes town. You will have the option to visit the hot springs of the town before retiring to rest at your hotel.

  • The altitude of Salineras de Maras is approximately 3,380 meters / 11,089 feet.
  • The altitude of Moray is approximately 3,500 meters / 11,483 feet.
  • The altitude of Machu Picchu is approximately 2,430 meters / 7,970 feet.

These attractions stand out in the Cusco region, known for its natural beauty and its importance for history and archaeology.

What is the best season for the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

The best time to enjoy the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour, with favorable weather conditions, is from April to October. During these months, we enjoyed the clear sky and less rainfall. Specifically, the driest months are between June and August, which coincide with the winter season in the Andes.

Where does the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour begin and end?

This exciting adventure to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu begins on the first day when our team will pick you up at your hotel to start the planned activities. Then, it ends on the second day when we take you back to your hotel, having enjoyed most of the scheduled visits during these two wonderful days.

In addition, we suggest that when you contact our friendly sales agents, you provide complete details about your hotel, including the name and exact address. In this way, we can make all the necessary arrangements to ensure your trip is as pleasant and hassle-free as possible.

What is the age range for the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

The Cusco Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour is open to people of all ages, with a minimum age of 8 and a maximum age of 60 years to fully enjoy all the activities and services we offer. It is also mandatory that all minors be accompanied by responsible adults (+18 years) at all times.

We want to ensure that everyone, from the youngest to the most experienced, has the opportunity to have an unforgettable experience in this beautiful place.

How many travelers will share with me this experience through the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu?

At Inkayni Peru Tours, we offer customized services for small groups. The minimum number of participants required for our packages and tours is only two people, and if so, they could join a group of no more than 15 travelers.

We assign two guides, a main guide, and an assistant guide, if the number of participants exceeds 10 people to ensure personalized and quality attention during your experience in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Is the accommodation included in the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

We are pleased to confirm that our tour to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu includes accommodation. Our prices are based on double occupancy, which means you can choose between a room with two single beds or a room with a double bed. For groups of three travelers, we also offer triple rooms with three single beds. We recommend you contact our sales agents to discuss your preferences and make sure everything is to your liking.

On the other hand, if you are a traveler it is only important to note that you will have to pay an individual supplement for your nights’ accommodation. This is because, in Peru, the cost of a single room is practically the same as that of a double room, resulting in an additional charge for individual travelers.

Where can I store my luggage that I do not need to take to the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

You can store any luggage you do not need to carry during your trek at your hotel in Cusco, as most hotels offer this service free of charge. If your hotel does not offer this service, we will be happy to take care of your luggage in our office safely.

Note: During your train trip, which is a mandatory route to quickly reach Machu Picchu, you will use the services of the railway companies Peru Rail or Inca Rail. These companies have a baggage policy that limits the amount to 5 kilos per passenger. Therefore, we recommend that you carry only a light backpack or a small suitcase with the necessary essentials for your stay and excursions while you are away from your hotel in Cusco. This will ensure your comfort and compliance with the baggage regulations of railway companies.

Is it important to acclimate for this Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

It is vital you gradually adapt to the altitude of the city of Cusco, which is located at 3,350 meters / 10,990 feet. If you come from an area close to sea level or an area with significantly low altitudes (below 1,000 meters)

We suggest taking a day or two for this process, during which you can rest, take short walks, and opt for a light diet. Following these tips, you will be ready to fully enjoy your activities in the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

In addition, it is highly recommended to stay well hydrated when arriving in Cusco to help your body oxygenate properly. Products made from coca leaves, such as chocolates, drinks, and candies, are an excellent option due to their properties to combat the symptoms of altitude sickness.

What is the best train service to Machu Picchu: Expedition or Vistadome?

Both trains travel the same route in the same period and have very similar schedules. However, if you are looking for an experience with a little more comfort and exceptional panoramic views, we recommend you opt for the Vistadome train.

During the train ride, the landscape changes significantly, going from a mountainous area to the jungle eyebrow, which runs from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu village. The Vistadome train is distinguished from the Expedition train by having wider windows on its walls and ceiling, as well as slightly wider seating spaces. These aspects add up to give you a more enriching experience while enjoying the stunning views along the way.

An additional difference is that the Vistadome service on the stretch from Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu village) to Ollantaytambo includes a dance show and a fashion show with alpaca baby clothes, which adds a special touch to your trip.

If you want more details about this experience, we invite you to visit the following link: Which train company is the best for Machu Picchu?

We are sure you will enjoy your journey on the Vistadome train to the fullest.

What currency should I bring Soles or dollars for the Sacred Valley Machu Picchu tour?

We offer you some fundamental tips for changing money for your trip to Peru:

  • Currency exchange before arrival: The most convenient thing is to change your local currency to US dollars before arriving in Peru or, failing that, in Cusco. This is because exchange rates for dollars are generally more favorable than for other local currencies, such as Mexican pesos, Colombian, Argentine, etc.
  • Change in Cusco: Once you are in Cusco city, we suggest you look for a change house, preferably on Av. El Sol. Here you will find more beneficial exchange rates to convert your dollars to Peruvian soles. It is important to mention that changing money at Peruvian airports is usually less beneficial in terms of exchange rates.
  • Carry Peruvian suns during your tour: To ensure you greater comfort during your tour days, we recommend you bring Peruvian suns with you. Most tourist establishments usually accept payments in soles, and although some also accept dollars, you may be offered a less favorable exchange rate compared to the value of the day.

Following these tips, you can optimize your currency transactions and enjoy your trip to Peru more conveniently and economically.

Please feel free to have the assistance of our staff, who will be available to provide you with guidance and answer any questions you may have about currency exchange or other aspects related to your trip.
