It is located in the heart of Sacred Valley of the Incas between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inkayniperutours.com\/blog\/archeological-complex-of-pisac-genetics-lab-of-the-incas\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><b>Pisaq<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Urubamba, 50 Km from Cusco approximately.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script><br \/>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display: block; text-align: center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3505230926454944\" data-ad-slot=\"3247790964\"><\/ins><br \/>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><\/p>\n<h3><b>Altitude:<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calca is located at an altitude of 2925 m.a.s.l, surrounded by impressive mountains such as Pitusiray Mountain, which is at an altitude of\u00a0 4987 m.a.s.l.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Most popular Tourist Attraction sites:<\/b><\/h3>\n<h4><b>Huchuy Qosqo<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Archeological site of Huchuy Qosqo (Quechua: \u201cSmall Cusco\u201d is also called Yuchuy Cusco) is located 50 km northside of Cusco, at 3600 m.a.s.l in the town of Lamay in the district and province of Calca, in<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.inkayniperutours.com\/blog\/sacred-valley-of-the-incas\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><b>Sacred Valley of the Incas<\/b><\/a><b>.<\/b><\/p>\n<h4><b>Archeological site:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the past Huchuy Qosqo or Small Cusco served as a strategic surveillance and control site to the Sacred Valley of the Incas as well as a refuge for the Inca when he was at war with the chancas. Among the adobe and stone buildings we can find:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Houses<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Agricultural terraces<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rectangular building which is believed to be a resting site for the Inca Royalty.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of the buildings were made of stone, adobe, one of them is a kallanka (big hall), 40m long. Providing water to the site is an Inca built irrigation channel, lined with stones for about 800m.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>Inca Wall and Agricultural terrace:<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Spanish took control of <\/span><b>Huchuy Qosqo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the 1500s, after the Manco Inca Revolution (approx. 1540) and used the site as a farm. The Incas had constructed several small reservoirs for irrigation. During their time at Huchuy Qosqo the Spanish demolished some other Inca structures to build the larger reservoir you see today.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Below the main <\/span><b>Huchuy Qosqo<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> site are the recently restored store houses qolqas for dried meat and crops such as corn, potatoes, quinoa, beans, among other products of the area.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recommend visiting Archeological site of Huchuy Qosqo during the dry season, from April to October since the weather is perfect to enjoy the beautiful landscapes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This site is inaccessible by public road and only accessible by a physically strenuous hike or on horseback. The two main access points by foot are from Lamay \u2014 3 hours up a steep set of switchbacks \u2014 or from Tauca, Peru \u2014 about 4 \u2013 6 hours on foot, the first third of the hike steadily increasing to a pass at 4400m, then mostly downhill, and visiting some other ruins.
