Puca Pucara is a fortification formed by platforms, stairs, passages, turrets, windowsills and a wall that defends the whole construction in a circular shape. Since it is located in the peak of a hill, it is believed that it was a military position and an administrative center. It may have served as a defense fortress of <\/span>Cusco<\/b><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Puca Pucara or Pukapukara comes from Quechua and it means \u2018Red Fortress’. This is because of the red granite that was used in its construction.<\/span><\/p>\n

Location:<\/b><\/h2>\n

Puca Pucara is located at the top of the road to Pisac, about 7 km from Cusco. It is at an altitude of 3 850 m.a.s.l.<\/span><\/p>\n

Climate:<\/b><\/h2>\n

Cusco and Puca Pucara have two distinct seasons: dry and rainy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dry season: From May to October<\/b><\/h2>\n

The weather during this period is predominantly dry, especially in June, July, and August. Days are bright and sunny with a temperature of 16 \u00b0C (61 \u00b0F) while nights are much colder sometimes with a low temperature of 0 \u00b0C (32 \u00b0F).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dry season is widely considered the best time to come to Cusco, but it is also the busiest time to travel.<\/span><\/p>\n
