It is at an altitude of 2,675 meters above sea level.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tarawasi is a compound word of Quechua, \u00abtara\u00bb means spiny shrub that bears fruit and \u00abwasi\u00bb means house.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The historical tradition says that this place was ordered to be built by the Inca Pachacutec in order to establish a resting place in the area on the road to Chinchaysuyo. This Inca trinity consisted of the puma (Earth), snake (underworld) and condor (sky). It was thought to be the messenger between the earth and the heavens.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Characteristics:<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The condor is monogamous and it lives with a single mate for its whole life.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With a wingspan of over 3 meters (10 feet), the Andean Condor is considered the largest flying bird in the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is mostly black, but males have a distinctive white \u201ccollar\u201d around their necks and some white markings on their wings as well. Therefore, the sex of a condor can be determined whether they have a white-collar around their neck (male) or not (female).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both sexes have the iconic bald head, however, males are much larger than females.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Male condors have yellow eyes and sport an eye-catching white ruff at the base of their necks.
