After travelling for three hours approximately, you will arrive at the highest point, Abra Malaga (4,350 m.a.s.l.). From there, you will start the biking down through the road until you arrive at the village of Huamanmarca around 1:00 p.m. (it will depend on the group’s pace).

RAFTING

In the Inca Jungle Trek tour, rafting is one of our clients’ favourite activities. There is going to be rafting along the Urubamba River, so pay close attention to the talk beforehand; the levels of activity will be I and II, depending on the season. Rafting is an adventure sport practised in different rivers around Cusco. There are different levels of rafting, including:

LEVEL DEFINITION
I Water with riffles and small waves and few obstructions that are easily missed.
II Straightforward rapids with wide, clear channels. Some maneuvering is required. Rocks and medium waves are easily missed.
III There are rapids with moderate, irregular waves that are difficult to avoid. You will encounter tight passages, strong eddies, and strong currents.
IV Intense, predictable rapids require precise boat handling, with some unavoidable waves and tight passages.
V Very long or extreme rapids. Drops may contain large, unavoidable waves, and tight chutes with complex routes.

The recommended rafting season is from May to October:

  • From July to August, you can practice different levels of rafting because the water flow is the lowest of the whole year.
  • From December to April, you can practice more challenging levels. Because it is the rainy season.

ZIPLINE

Also known as zip-lining or canopy, it is an activity that provides an adrenaline rush and excitement. It consists of sliding down using a suspended cable in the air, usually in a natural environment. Tourists slide from one elevated platform to another, using a harness and pulley system that allows them to glide very fast. There are many styles such as the condor, in which you will be in a horizontal position with your arms outstretched and your head raised with your gaze straight ahead.

46. HOW EARLY TO BOOK THE INCA JUNGLE TREK TO MACHU PICCHU?

If you plan to do the Inca Jungle Trek to Machu Picchu, it is important to consider how far in advance you should book your package tour. We recommend you book six (6) months in advance because entrance tickets to Machu Picchu’s citadel are easily sold out, and even more in the high season months (May-October) to avoid problems, book in advance.

Most travel agencies charge a cancellation fee because at the time of booking they must guarantee transportation, bilingual guides, equipment and all the logistics necessary to fulfill the itinerary.

The cancellation fee is generally as follows:

30 to 60 days before the departure date 40% of the trip’s cost
7 to 29 days before the departure date 60% of the trip’s cost
Less than 7 days before departure or in case of no-show. 100% of the trip’s cost

 

49. IS THERE AN EXTRA CHARGE TO ENTER THE HOT SPRINGS OF COCALMAYO?

Most package tours do not add entrance fees to Cocalmayo Hot Springs. So, be sure to read all the information offered by the travel agency you have chosen for your tour.

The entrance fee is approximately fifteen Peruvian soles.

50. IS IT NECESSARY TO HAVE INSURANCE TO DO THE INCA JUNGLE TREK?
