Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – PUMAHUANCA – PUYOC

To commence, the Lares trek of Peru commences at the diminutive village of Pumahuanca in the Sacred Valley. We shall leisurely ascend one of the adjacent valleys, covering a total distance of approximately 14km, while ascending roughly 1150m / 3373ft, as we progress towards the village of Puyoc. Consequently, during our ascent, we shall pay a visit to the petite Inca site of Pumahuanca and acquire knowledge about the indigenous flora, fauna, and avian species that inhabit this region.

Furthermore, it is not customary for other companies to undertake this specific route for the Lares trek, thereby allowing us to relish the serenity and tranquility of our surroundings devoid of any disruptions or disturbances. Due to the scarcity of visitors in this area, there exists a favorable possibility of encountering Viscachas (a Chinchilla-like rabbit) and potentially catching a glimpse of the Andean Fox. Subsequently, our designated campsite for the evening is situated at Puyoc (4100m / 13451ft); the terrain at this altitude is rather desolate, and it is not uncommon for arid conditions to prevail here during the dry season, hence the recommendation of gloves and a hat.

  • Lodging: Campsite in Puyoc

DAY 2: PUYOC – YANACOCHA – CUNCANI

Similarly, today is an absolutely breathtaking day of the Lares trek Peru and it is definitely much more manageable compared to yesterday. Starting from our campsite, we have a delightful 13km stroll ahead of us towards the charming village of Cuncani. The best part is that most of the route is downhill, making it a relatively easy journey. We will be treated to magnificent views of snowcapped peaks towering above us and tranquil mountain lakes, including the mesmerizing Yanacocha – also known as Black Water. Moreover, we will have the incredible opportunity to meet the friendly locals, who are adorned in their vibrant and traditional bright red attire.

It is fascinating to note that this side of the pass showcases a completely distinct culture compared to the other side. As we make our way down from the pass, your knowledgeable guide will share intriguing insights about the people and their captivating way of life. Furthermore, you will have the chance to learn a handful of useful Quechua phrases, enabling you to engage in meaningful interactions with the warm and welcoming local community.

  • Lodging: Campsite in Cuncani

DAY 3: CUNCANI – LARES – OLLANTAYTAMBO

The focus of today’s agenda is to engage with the local residents of Lares trek Peru. Consequently, in the early morning hours, our guide will escort us to one of the residences, affording us the opportunity to interact with a local family. Similarly, the locals display an exceptional level of hospitality and are equally eager to learn about your background, just as you are intrigued by theirs. Hopefully, you have acquired a basic grasp of the local language and can pose a few inquiries, much to the delight and amusement of everyone involved. Subsequently, you will have the chance to present any gifts you have brought for the locals and avail yourself of the opportunity to purchase the region’s renowned alpaca products.

Upon departing Cuncani, a brief journey of 6 kilometers will bring us to the Lares hot springs. Along the way, we will traverse several small communities and witness the cultivation of various crops, such as Quinua and Tarwi. Furthermore, it is highly likely that we will catch glimpses of Andean parrots soaring above, easily distinguishable by their distinctive calls. Following a rejuvenating soak in the hot springs, we will be collected by our bus and transported back to the Sacred Valley. We’ll spend the night at Ollantaytambo town.

  • Lodging: Casa Blanca Hotel (Ollantaytambo)*** or similar

DAY 4: OLLANTAYTAMBO – KM 104 – AGUAS CALIENTES

Initially, we will depart from our hotel in Ollantaytambo towards the Ollantaytambo train station. The train journey will take approximately one hour as we traverse the valley to reach our starting point for hiking Machu Picchu. Our expedition commences at the banks of the Urubamba River, specifically at kilometer 104 known as Chachabamba. Subsequently, we will gradually ascend to intersect with the original Inca Trail hike at the Wiñay Wayna site. Prior to progressing towards the Sun Gate and ultimately reaching the Machu Picchu citadel.

During our journey, we will traverse a dense cloud forest that encompasses a diverse range of plants, flowers, and avian species. If we are fortunate, we may encounter some of the indigenous mammals such as Viscachas (resembling rabbit-like Chinchillas) or the rare Spectacled Bear. The Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu showcases awe-inspiring vistas, providing us with the most remarkable scenery.

Consequently, following a full day of trekking, we will arrive at the Sun Gate (Inti Punku) in the late afternoon. This vantage point grants us the initial glimpse of Machu Picchu majestically sprawled across the mountain ridge below. The lighting during this time of day creates a stunning backdrop for capturing photographs. Subsequently, descending from the Sun Gate of Machu Picchu, we will proceed along the exquisitely paved stone path to hike towards Machu Picchu. However, we will only ascend to the renowned “look-out point” situated above the central section of the citadel. From this elevated position, we will then descend to the town of Aguas Calientes in the valley below for hotel check-in and dinner.

  • Lodging: Golden Sunrise Machu Picchu Hotel *** or similar.

DAY 5: MACHU PICCHU!

The most important aspect will be that we will be able to enter Machu Picchu as soon as it opens by waking up early and taking the first bus back up. Thus, we will conduct a 2-hour guided tour of the Inca citadel during which you will learn about the Incas and visit all of its most important features. You will then have the opportunity to climb either Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain if you have the permits. In the afternoon, you will return to Ollantaytambo where you will proceed to Cusco by bus.

FAQS?

Is the Lares trek to Machu Picchu difficult? Do I need to be in good physical condition?

All our treks (Inca Trail hike, Salkantay trek, Ausangate trek, Lares Trek Peru, etc.) are moderately difficult, lengthy and traverse rough mountain terrain. We kindly recommend that if you plan to conquer any of these routes to be in relatively good physical condition, plus acclimatization.

When do I need to arrive in Cusco?

This means arriving in Cusco at least 02 days before your trek departure to adjust to the altitude. During the last two months leading up to your trek, we suggest a regular and moderate exercise routine to improve endurance and stamina. We wish for you to have the best experience possible!

Are vegetarian, vegan, and other special diet needs available?

Of course! Without any additional costs! When you make your reservation, please inform us of any dietary needs or requirements, including allergies!

Vegetarian foods will be absent of all meats, chicken, or fish. We will assume that eggs and cheese or other lactose products are OK.

Most of our main meals are buffet-style, leaving you the option to avoid anything undesirable to you.

If there are any food items or veggies that you cannot stomach, perhaps onions, tomatoes, mushrooms.. etc., upon your request we will ask our chef to leave them out or separate this item.

What if I am lactose intolerant?

We can also attend lactose-intolerant or gluten-intolerant diets. We cannot accept individuals with serious allergic or life-threatening reactions.

I have a food allergy. May I still participate?

Every day we receive many clients with food allergies to nuts, wheat, etc. Please inform us in detail of your condition upon making your reservation.

We kindly ask that you declare the severity of your reaction and any medication that you take in case of an emergency.

If your allergy is severe, we ask that you be accompanied by a friend or individual conscious and entirely responsible for your situation and ready with any medication.

WE CAN NOT ACCEPT CLIENTS WITH LIFE-THREATENING ALLERGIES

When must I arrive in Cusco or arrive at your office?

We require that all clients arrive in Cusco at least 48 hours before the start of your trek, although 03 nights before is ideal. You must pay your remaining balance two days before your departure for your trek. This will ensure that all individuals are acclimatized and adjusted to the high altitude conditions to begin your trek comfortably. Please note that your remaining balance must be paid in cash in our office and cannot be paid before your arrival.

What are the office hours?

Our office hours are Monday – Saturday 9:00am – 1:00pm, 4:00pm – 8:00pm. (Please aim to arrive at 7:30 pm at the latest!)

Are hiking sticks or poles necessary?

For this trek more than any other, we do recommend hiking sticks, especially for those with any known knee problems. The poles will assist your balance and reduce the impact on your knees.

Inkayni Peru Tours will rent hiking sticks for $15

Where can I store my baggage that I don't need for the trail?

Any baggage that is not necessary for your trek may be stored in your hotel in Cusco (most hotels offer this service free of charge). In the case that your hotel may not provide this service, we will store your baggage safely in our office free of charge.

What is the weather like during the Lares trek to Machu Picchu?

The best time for making the trek with good weather is between April – October when there are minimal rainfall and clear skies. The driest months are June – August, which is winter in the Andes.

When is the wet season for lares trek 4 days?

January to March is summer in Peru, which means the rainy season for Cusco and especially the Inka Trail, which is located mostly in the tropical cloud forest.

We will pick you up from your hotel to begin your lares trek to Machu Picchu, and upon finishing, we will also leave you at your hotel.

I wish to have a train company or train option different from that which Inkayni Peru Tours offers, is this possible?

FAQS?

Money in Peru?

Peru uses the Nuevo Sol (S), which has traded from S3.00 to S3.30 per US dollar (US$) for several years although you should keep an eye on current events. Carrying cash, an ATM card or traveler´s checks, as well as a credit card that can be use for cash advances in case of emergency, is advisable. When receiving local currency, always ask for small bills (billetes pequeños), as S100 bills is hard to change in small towns or for small purchases. Carry as much spare change as posible, especially in small towns. Public bathrooms often charge a small fee for use and getting change for paper can be darn near impossible. The best places to exchange money are normally foreign exchange bureaus (casa de cambio), which are fast, have longer hours and often give slightly better rates than banks. Many places accept US dollars. Do not accept torn money as it will likely not be aceppted by Peruvians. It is best not to change money on the street as counterfeits are a problem.

ALL of our treks (Inca Trail, Salkantay, Lares, etc.) are moderately difficult, long, and cover rough terrain. We kindly recommend that you evaluate your physical condition and stamina before booking any of our treks. Being acclimatized before your trek is a MUST, which means arriving at least 2 DAYS prior to the start of your trek. One or two months before your arrival, we recommend practicing a regular exercise routine to prepare your endurance. Our mountains are beautiful and literally breathtaking – the terrain is not to be taken lightly! Although challenging, it is possible to enjoy your experience in every way imaginable, especially when you prepare by following our recommendations. We want you to have the best experience possible and to live each moment to the fullest!

How is the wheater in Peru?

The weather in Peru is extremely varied depending on the region you visit!

Peru has a wide variety of climates due to its proximity to the equator and tropical influence, along with the towering heights of the Andes Mountains and the strong currents of the Pacific ocean. The country is usually divided into three principal geographic regions.

Coast – The main characteristic of the coast is dryness – it is mostly desert, but a desert with mild temperatures, and plenty of humidity. Light rain is possible a few months of the year, but usually the coast is covered in a heavy fog coming from the sea, which brings plenty of mist onto land and often a chilly sensation. During summer months (Dec-Apr), the fog disappears and temperatures may exceed 30ºC (86º F), especially in the north.

Mountains – The Andes has two well-marked seasons – dry season with its endless sunny days from April to October and wet season between November and March. Day temperatures do not fluctuate much all year, but dry season night temperatures often bring a harsh chill due to frequent frost above 3,500 mts (11,500 ft). Most tourist choose to visit during the dry months. Climate varies greatly depending on altitude. In general, mountain weather is wild and unpredictable any time of the year!

Amazon – A tropical climate with two seasons – dry and very hot between April to October and a more mild-heat wet season between November to March. High humidity is present all year long.

1.-WHY SHOULD I BOOK THE INCA TRAIL FOR THE YEAR 2024 IN ADVANCE?
The Peruvian government limits the traffic of the Inca Trail to 500 people per day, including guides, cooks, and porters who must carry all food, tents, etc. No carriage animals are allowed on the Inca Trail, as their hoofs damage the old stone roads. The proportion of support staff to hikers is 6 to 1, so in reality, there are not many entry permits for hikers! Each hiker must register through an authorized travel agent, usually months in advance, as the permits are sold very quickly (Up to 06 months before the date of travel). Planning and reserving your place months in advance is essential for the trekking of the famous Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Especially for months of high demand from March to September. Likewise, availability in April, May, June, and July deplete very quickly, sometimes hours after the availability is made public. All permits are sold between 6 – 8 months in advance. This means that we need our list of hikers and all your necessary information. We must have your exact passport information also to ensure your permit. In the reservation form, we will need your first, second and third choice for the dates to begin your trek on the Inca Trail. Then we are ready to reserve the openings as soon as they are available, usually in December.

We can not guarantee that we will get your preferred departure date, but last year we got 100% of the permits for the dates of preference.

Introduction to Sacred Travel & Mystical Packages

Introduction to Sacred Travel & Mystical Packages

Sacred Travel & Spiritual tours: Our team at Inkayni recognizes the importance of the art of living well, the essence of walking in a sacred manner just as the wise ancestors of the Andes did. The art of living that honors existence, that celebrates creation and the gift of life. That gives thanks and praise, and that gives strength and effort towards personal growth and transformation; to opening up space and experience that promotes self-realization. Transcending our limitations and breaking new ground to reveal our infinite gifts and potential as individual flowers and manifestations of One divine consciousness. Here in the Andes, with a stunning natural landscape and a rich history of culture, science and wisdom. It’s no wonder why people are called here from all corners of the globe. Yet few are those pilgrims who come searching, who come called to a higher purpose on a walkabout through the Andes.

This ancient science continues to be disregarded in modern society and its effects are obvious. We are destroying both on a personal level our only physical vessel and on a collective level our only home and source of sustenance, the Earth. Healing and self-realization are not only possible – they are fully available to those who feel the calling. The tools, or medicines as we prefer to call them, left behind by the ancients. And still practiced by many today are here to serve us as amazing potential for personal transformation and thus the potential to change the current state of humanity’s existential crisis.

First, let us introduce you more into our sacred space and sacred time of the nature of these journeys. Sacred Travel seeks to guide the individual through the recognition of one’s true nature, and therefore the nature of the cosmos (as below, so above; as within, so without) through a process of experiences. We believe that it is just a question of remembering, for it is part of our origins, engrained into our being. Some call this Cosmovision. With this memory awakened, with our consciousness enlightening and our awareness tuned-in, we then have the tools to coexist and thrive with all of Creation, bringing more fullness into our lives. Recognizing our origins and the natural cosmic law that is (not that we create), we may discover how to flow as part of the web of life (not above or superior to it) and promote well-being throughout our life and beyond. For us, this cosmovision is global and was shared by many ancient cultures. As applied in the Andes, it only takes into account aspects of the natural world and landscape that surrounds us, such as the geographic expressions and also the footsteps left by the ancestors.

We would like to offer something different for those looking to head off the beaten path, for those looking for support in life, and for those hungry for a deeper experience and understanding of our true human nature. These experiences will be personally tailored to fit the individuals’ needs or interests. From our deepest passion and profound respect to our ancestors, as guides of the Andean medicine path we are privileged to offer you this journey. In these journeys, we will visit the best sacred sites or places of power that seek to assist and support us through our experiences. Spiritual tours.

Sacred Travel Ceremonies with Wachuma (San Pedro)

This ancestral plant medicine has thousands of years of use in the Andes, supporting dozens of cultures from Colombia all the way through the Andes to northern Argentina and Chile. This medicine is pure unconditional Love, the Love that created the entire Universe and continues to create each day, and the Love that we also are as children of the Universe. This master plant guides us within through the realms of our inner-consciousness and also assists us in the recognition of our place in the Cosmos and the profound connection we have with Mother Earth, bringing us closer to her heart and her embrace and ready to receive all the support and blessings she has for us. It helps us cleanse and heal our imbalances and energetic blockages to manifest greater health and vitality; to liberate through the powerful medicine of forgiveness those experiences from the past that may have caused (or still cause) trauma, pain, and suffering in the present, limiting our true nature to continually reinvent and recreate ourselves each day, living in the pure innocence of the eternal child, in wonder of the miracle of each new dawn. Wachuma acts as a mirror where we may observe our habits, conditionings, and beliefs to see whether or not they really serve us or if we need them, as well as to recognize the limitations of the ego and how to liberate ourselves from its control while bringing deeper clarity and calm into our minds. Through this sacred space and sacred time in ceremony with Wachuma, we return back to Source, back to our origins as pure love, creative potential, and possibility, living in abundance and flourishing and human beings in the dance of creation.

Spiritual Tours Ceremonies of Karpay & Offerings

Karpay is the ancient ritual of initiation through the blessing of receiving one or more of the four elements (water, air, fire, earth) to assist a specific aspect of one’s spiritual journey or to receive more strength and vitality from the creations primal energies.

Offerings are another ancestral ceremony that expresses deep gratitude towards the pillars of Creation and all the gods, beings, spirits, etc that support our existence (Pachamama, the Apus or sacred mountain deities, spirits of the elements). Offerings also give us an opportunity to express our prayers and intentions, to manifest in our lives that which we need to flourish. Offerings release a huge amount of energy that can be directed towards healing, projects or initiatives,

Upon your arrival in Aguas Calientes, you will board a bus to reach the entrance to Machu Picchu.

“Magnificence” is the only word to describe the scene, when contemplating the ruins of Machu Picchu. The main destination of many traveler lists, the “Lost City of the Incas” is a man-made wonder that has become a symbol of the ingenuity and prosperity of one of the most expansive empires in Latin American history. Only a century ago the incredible ruins were discovered. Its fascination is due in part to its location, high on the mountain at 2,430m / 7,972 feet above sea level. After enjoying the hotel we will start our tour by visiting of the “living ” Inka town of Ollantaytambo, a former Inca administrative center and gateway to the Antisuyo (the Amazon corner of the Inca Empire), sits at the northern end of the Sacred Valley. At the time of the Spanish invasion and conquest of Peru, Ollantaytambo served as the last stronghold for Inca Manco Yupanqui, leader of the Inca resistance at the time. Nowadays the Ollantaytambo ruins and town are an important and popular tourist attraction in the Sacred Valley.

Later we will continue to Moray, an ancient construction designed for agricultural investigations and studies of different crops in a range of altitudes. Here, the many concentric “rings” of terraces produce a fine gradient of micro-climates; the warmth of the lowest central ring slowly dissipates as the rings ascend outward and upward, creating reductions in temperatures until reaching the ground-level norm.

Our last place to visit will be Chinchero: the rainbow village, home of the ruins of the royal palace of the Inka Túpac Inca Yupanqui, a pictures community located on a high plateau overlooking the many snowcapped peaks of the Cusco region. Here we can admire the well preserved Inka walls of the main square as well as the many altars. We will also visit the beautiful colonial church of Chinchero, unique for its interior artwork and imagery.

Moving on, we will participate in a wonderful introduction and learning experience of the art of Andean textiles; throughout the afternoon we will become acquainted with the wisdom of Andean weavings as maintained since long before Inka times.

One of the Sacred Valley’s best archaeological gems is the beautiful Inca ruins at Pisac. Set in the mountainside high above the village of Pisac, the ruins are the most visited for anyone heading to the Sacred Valley. Pisaq is known mainly for two reasons – for its famous craft market and for its archaeological site. Here we will have free time to wander the market and to interact with the many local artisans. After enjoying the typical market we will return to Cusco, on the way we will stop to visit the Animal Sanctuary of Cochahuasi: here we may observe many of the native Andean species such as the puma, Andean cóndor, alpacas, and more.
