ITINERARY LUXURY TRIP TO MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO 5D/4N

DAY 1: QORICANCHA & INCA MUSEUM

Our 5-Day Luxury Trip to Machu Picchu starts with your arrival to the City of Cusco, and our staff will await you at the airport for your transfer to your hotel where you will accommodate yourself during the remainder of the tour. After settling in, our guide will take you on a visit to the beautiful temple of Qoricancha, or “Temple of the Sun,” one of the most important temples in the ancient city of Cusco. Following Qoricancha we will visit the Inca Museum to learn more about the ancient cultures of Peru, seeing first-hand the archaeological collection of Andean art, and expose ourselves to the Inca civilization and their cosmo-vision.

DAY 2: CHINCHERO – MORAY – MARAS

On this day we will begin our adventure up to the high plains, stopping first at Chinchero, an important ancient site for the Inca, known as the birth place of the rainbow. We will visit the main site with its picturesque colonial church located upon the ancient archaeological site and continue to a local textile center where we will learn about the ancient science of weaving from the very artisans themselves and how they bring to magic these wonderful pieces of art dyed with minerals, plants, and seeds.

Continuing through the rolling hills we will visit the enigmatic circular terraces of Moray where we will learn about how these constructions served as an experimental agricultural center to selectively cultivate the best breeds of Andean staple crops at different temperatures. Near Moray, we will stop at the town of Maras to then visit the ancient salt mines of Maras, used for thousands of years by local families to supply salt not only to the Incas but still to this day offering us an example of the natural art of salt harvesting straight from the land.

Finally, our tour will conclude as we return to your hotel in Cusco.

DAY 3: LUXURY HIRAM BINGHAM TRAIN TO MACHU PICCHU

Continuing with our Luxury Trip to Machu Picchu 5d/4n, we will begin our day early with a transfer to the train station of Poroy and aboard the luxurious Hiram Bingham train. The views during this journey are one of a kind as we journey down the Sacred Valley through the high Andes towards the “eyebrow of the jungle,” or edge of the Amazon rainforest, all while being attended to by the staff and offered the best foods, a welcome cocktail, and open-air enjoyment along the way. Your gourmet lunch might be accompanied by local musicians playing the finest music of the Andes while sipping on the most delicious Peruvian cocktails.

Arriving to Aguas Calientes, we will make a short journey by bus to the majestic mountain of Machu Picchu, offering us outstanding views of the beautiful landscape and all of the magic and mystery within.  The official tour of Machu Picchu will take about 2 hours. In the evening the crowds will slowly disappear and leave you with some space at peace to feel the enchantment of this ancient place.

In the afternoon there will be a “tea time” at the Hotel Belmond Sanctuary Lodge before taking the bus back to Aguas Calientes and boarding the train. Once aboard you will be offered a gourmet dinner, drinks, cocktails, and a wide variety of live music as you make your way back to Cusco.

DAY 4: PISAQ MARKET – COCHAHUASI

After breakfast, our bus will take us from the hotel toward the Sacred Valley of the Inca. Here we will continue our Luxury Trip to Machu Picchu 5d/4n with a tour of the archaeological site of Pisaq, a marvelous site of supreme Inca engineering – a mountain full of agricultural terraces and buildings upon steep mountainsides. Once at the peak of this mountain, you will encounter the best views of the Sacred Valley and its stunning landscapes. Later we will return to the town of Pisaq and visit the local artisan market of craftsmen, complete with products of all kinds, offering you everything from weavings to musical instruments and all sorts of souvenirs.

After completing our visit to the market we will aboard our transportation towards Cusco while making a stop at the Animal Sanctuary of Cochahuasi – the best place to see up close and personal all of the animals of the Andean region, such as the Condor, Puma, Alpaca, Birds and many more. The day concludes at your Hotel in Cusco.

PACKING LIST

Sturdy shoes, a good raincoat, and warm layers for the evening are the only essential items. Bring comfortable and modest clothes for the time in Cusco. There is no need to bring a sleeping bag or any gear as you’ll be staying in lodges throughout the expedition or trip.
