Why do I have to attend the briefing before the Salkantay Trek?

The meeting is crucial for you to attend. In it, you will meet your guide, who will provide all the necessary information about the Salkantay Trek, addressing topics such as the right dress, what to wear, weather conditions, and other important data.

On the other hand, if you have not yet completed your remaining balance, this will be one of the best times to do so. You will also be given a travel bag (duffle bag) where you can carry your luggage. Remember that the maximum weight of the duffle is 7 kg.

Is it possible to change the start date of the Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu after booking?

Be careful about it. You will not be able to modify the start date of the Salkantay Walk, since the permits and tickets purchased are not adjustable as to their date of use. You must meet the deadline.

Note: You must plan your trip properly to meet the dates you have set for travel.

What if I cancel my Salkantay Trek reservation, the deposit is refundable?

Unfortunately, the deposit will not be refundable once it has been made. This is because those funds are specifically intended for the purchase of permits and tickets that will ensure your trip on the date you have planned

Note: Before booking, contact our Inkayni Peru Tours agents. We will be happy to help you plan your trip.

You can check it in our Terms & Conditions

Do I need to make a booking in advance?

Yes, and there are several reasons for this. The demand for this trek is quite high, comparable to the Inca Trail. In addition, the availability of Machu Picchu is limited.

Please consider booking at least three months in advance. This will help you secure your place on the route and allow you to plan your trip accurately. It will also allow us to have all the necessary logistics ready for your travel experience.

Can I transfer my Salkantay Trek to someone else?

Please note that you will not be able to transfer this trip. Why? Once the reservation is made, we purchase the necessary tickets and permits, which cannot be replaced. They may only be used by the person to whom they were granted.

Remember, plan properly your journey. You can contact our Inkayni Peru Tours agents, who will be glad to help you.

What is the cancellation policy in case of unforeseen events?

We invite you to review our terms and conditions for more details on our policies. You can click on our Terms & conditions, where you will find relevant information about our trips that may be of interest to you.

Note: Remember to contact our Inkayni Peru Tours agents to check availability.

Where can I store my luggage that I do not need to take to the walk?

Carrying only what you need will help you travel lighter and more comfortable. If you have extra luggage you won’t need, we recommend you keep it at the hotel where you stay. Most of these establishments offer this service free of charge.

Note: If your hotel does not offer this service, do not forget to contact our agents. They will give you the facility to keep it in our offices.

Are bathrooms available along the Salkantay Trek?

Along the route of the Salkantay trekking, you will find squat bathing services with cold water. However, remember these bathrooms are often unhygienic and difficult to access.

For the fourth day, you will stay in a hotel where you can enjoy all the necessary amenities, including the possibility of getting properly cleaned.

Is there a telephone signal or internet connection during the Salkantay trek?

During the route, you will not be able to enjoy mobile phone and/or internet services. It will be a unique time to explore part of the world and disconnect from the everyday. You will see that part of the activity will make you forget those details.

Note: The signal of these services will be restored from the night of the fourth day. Why? At that point, you will be in Aguas Calientes town, at the foot of Machupicchu.

Can I buy food and water during the Salkantay Trek?

For your peace of mind, you can buy some snacks and water. Where? These points can be found where we will camp, which are offered by residents.

Keep in mind that their stores are limited and basic. We recommend taking snacks from the city of Cusco to make sure you have enough along the way.

What to do or how to prevent altitude sickness on the Salkantay Trek tour?

You must take into account altitude sickness. You must acclimate in your first days in Cusco. We’re sure you will.

If you are one of the travelers who make the most of their time, we recommend you to take small tours near the city of Cusco. These are perfect to prepare the body to make the Salkantay Trek. I leave here our blog «How to deal with altitude sickness in Cusco«.

Can I bring my camera or phone during the Salkantay trek to take pictures?

Of course. We know that the most valuable memories of our travels are our photographs. Therefore, we recommend you bring a camera or an action camera, such as the GoPro.

What about the drones?

If you plan to use a drone, don’t worry. You can use it during the route until the third day. From day four onwards, you will not be able to do so, as you will be in protected areas where the use of drones is prohibited by Peruvian state regulations.

I want to have a different train option than what Inkayni Peru Tours offers, is this possible?

Inkayni Peru Tours gives you the option to change your train, the route, or even the railway company. However, it is important to note that changes are non-refundable and additional service charges apply.

To make a change, you must contact our Inkayni Peru Tours agents in advance of the date of your trip. They will be happy to help you with the process and give you advice on the options available.
